Windows 11 Gets a Faster File Explorer in Latest Update

Microsoft is shipping a Windows 11 update that targets one of the most common complaints about the OS: File Explorer performance.

What improved

The company says opening folders with thousands of items, extracting archives and browsing network locations are all noticeably faster in the new build.

Other changes

The update also brings refinements to the Start menu, a handful of accessibility improvements and the usual round of security fixes.

How to get it

The update rolls out gradually through Windows Update. You can check manually under Settings, Windows Update, then Check for updates.
